Celebrating 20years of NFDN.... also now offering Term Time only
At NFDN most of our learning is 'In The Moment', by providing enriched play spaces throughout the Nursery, where opportunity for exploration, creativity, and curiosity is supported and extensions of learning happen naturally through play. We also create an "invitation to play" by looking at the cohort of children we have attending that day, this activity will reflect their interests and stages of development. These activities have an intentional learning outcome that can be adapted to the children's abilities.
We teach the children during these activities by scaffolding, role modelling, demonstrating and encouraging new language, skills, understanding and knowledge.
At NFDN your child will be a focus child twice a term, this means the staff will be focusing on your child and extending their learning during activities they enjoy. Children's learning is extended every session they attend, but this learning is recorded during a focus week.
During these weeks you will receive a copy of their focus sheet (records of learning) in the first half term and an assessment which records how your child is progressing in the second half term. We also jot down 'WOW' moments of achievements and attach lots of photos of children engaging in activities, these pictures speak a thousand words, our parents love to see pictures of the children at Nursery, it brings them comfort, joy and peace of mind seeing their little one enjoy their time at NFDN.
The main principle for us is that children learn a lot more when they are engaged in something and have an interest in it, it's true for us adults too, we are all a lot more likely to engage in something that we are truly interested in than something chosen for us. Our job is to create an environment where there are multiple ways for them to engage and then extend their learning where appropriate.
We'd love for you to come and see our Nursery for yourselves
